Park Improvements

Scheduled Improvements

  • Improvements are underway in the North Jefferson Recreation Area.  Scheduled work includes adding a restroom facility in Quigg Commons.  Other plans include extending the trail system along the riverfront near the Noren Access.
  • Design is complete to add a restroom facility at Community Park.  Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin fall 2016.
  • Greenway trail expansion: Design and planning is underway to build Phase II of the Frog Hollow Greenway trail extension.  Phase II will extend the existing trail across the creek, via a low water crossing,  to just west of the Hwy. 179 overpass.  Work is scheduled for summer 2016.

 Completed Improvements

  • November 2016: McClung Park playground renovation complete.
  • June 2016: Oak Hills Golf Center hole 9 open for play. The new par 3 includes a larger green complex protected by two sand bunkers, expanded back tees, a new forward tee, new cart path and increased the size of the retention pond.
  • May 2016: Ellis-Porter Riverside swimming pool renovation. Amenities include zero depth/ramp entry with spray features for children, drop slide, and three quarter meter diving board. Other improvements include replacing aging infrastructure plumbing and adding a new gutter system to the perimeter of the pool.
  • April 2016: Green Berry Park outdoor pavilion and indoor cabin rentals complete.
  • Spring 2016: Improvements to new 18-hole disc golf course at Binder Park located on west side of lake.  Project made possible with the help of the Jefferson City Disc Golf Club.  For more information about JCDGC and the development of the new course, visit jeffersoncitydiscgolfclub.appspot.com or Like them on Facebook.
  • Fall 2015: Improvements in North Jefferson Recreation Area include new outdoor shelter and walking trails in Quigg Commons.
  • October 2015: Better access to the West Edgewood Drive Recreation area has been made possible with the rehabilitation and installation of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge over Frog Hollow branch of Wears Creek.  The new bridge will connect the greenway trail at the West Edgewood Drive parking lot and the 3.1 miles mountain bike and hiking trails located in the West Edgewood Drive Recreation Area.  Project made possible through a generous donation from the Jefferson City Host Lions Club and a Land and Water Conservation Fund outdoor recreation grant.
