As a condition of employment, all hired applicants are required to attend a preseason staff training session. The training date and location will be announced at a later date. At the discretion of the Director, all Parks and Recreation seasonal employees agree to be paid their hourly wage for the number of hours he or she works for each week, regardless of the number of hours worked.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) child labor provisions are designed to protect educational opportunities of minors and prohibit their employment in jobs and under conditions detrimental to their health or well-being.  The provisions include restrictions on hours of work for minors under sixteen years old.

Youth 14 and 15 years old may work outside school hours in various non-manufacturing, non-mining, non-hazardous jobs under the following conditions:

During school I cannot: (from Labor Day to June 1)
  • Begin work before 7:00 a.m. & cannot work past 7:00 p.m. during the week or on the weekend
  • Work more than 3 hours on a school day
  • Work more than 8 hours on a non-school day
  • Work more than 18 hours in a school week
  • Work more than 6 consecutive days in a week

During the summer I cannot:  (from June 1 to Labor Day) 

  • Begin work before 7:00 a.m. & cannot work past 9:00 p.m. during the week or on the weekend
  • Work more than 8 hours in a day
  • Work more than 40 hours per week
  • Work more than 6 consecutive days in a week
