UPDATE May 18, 2016: the remaining bicycling classes have been cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to reintroduce the program at a later date.

Join one or more of the eight scheduled bicycling classes/rides. Minimum age is 14 years. Participants need to bring a bicycle and helmet. A water bottle and spare tube are recommended. Classes are held by a League Cycling Instructor (LCI).

Thursday, May 12: Bike Maintenance at Home Get your bike ready for the sunshine! Learn basic bike maintenance skills in this hands-on course designed for people who don't know anything about bikes or want a refresher. Clean and lube your chain and make minor brake and derailleur adjustments. Find out what you can fix on your own and what needs an expert's touch. Bring your own bike (optional)! Washington Park Ice Arena. 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

Thursday, May 19: Greenway to Katy Trail Bike Ride Ride from the Greenway to the Katy Trail, with a short stretch on streets, and learn the history and background of the trails. Practice Smart Cycling principles as we ride to improve your confidence bicycling with traffic. This ride is under 10 miles, no drop*, average speed 10 mph, with several stops for education. Bicycle and helmet required. Water bottle and spare tube recommended. Meet at Washington Park Ice Arena. 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

Thursday, May 26: Fix-a-Flat Learn how to change a flat tire, the most common mechanical failure on bicycles. This hands-on course is designed for people who don't know anything about bicycles or want a refresher. Bring your own wheel or bike (optional)! Washington Park Ice Arena. 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

Thursday, June 2: City Parks Bike Ride Visit several city parks by bicycle on streets and trails, learning about the history and amenities of each park. Practice Smart Cycling principles as we ride to improve your confidence bicycling with traffic. This ride is under 10 miles, no drop*, average speed 10 mph, with several stops for education. Bicycle and helmet required. Water bottle and spare tube recommended. Meet at Washington Park Ice Arena. 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

Sunday, June 5: Women's Fix-a-Flat Learn how to change a flat tire, the most common mechanical failure on bicycles. This hands-on course is designed for people who don't know anything about bicycles or want a refresher. Bring your own wheel or bike (optional)! [Venue TBA], 2:00 - 3:30 pm.

Thursday, June 9: Bicycle Handling Skills Whether you learned to ride a bike yesterday or have been riding for a few years, improving your bicycle handling skills will help keep your bike "rubber side down". Practice scanning and signaling, weaving around obstacles, using your gears, Rock Dodge, and Attack Position in a series of parking lot drills. Bicycle and helmet required. Washington Park Ice Arena. 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

Thursday, June 16: History Tour Bike on streets and trails past important historic sites and buildings. Practice Smart Cycling principles as we ride to improve your confidence bicycling with traffic. This ride is under 10 miles, no drop*, average speed 10 mph, with several stops for education. Bicycle and helmet required. Water bottle and spare tube recommended. Meet at Washington Park Ice Arena. 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

Sunday, June 19: Ride to Hartsburg Enjoy the beautiful Katy Trail with your Parks & Rec friends. The distance is over 20 miles, no drop*, average speed 10 mph. Bicycle and helmet required. Water bottle and spare tube recommended, and cash or card for lunch at Dottie's Cafe. Meet at North Jefferson Trailhead. 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

*No Drop: no rider will be left behind during group rides. Participants will regroup at mid-points to account for all riders.
