Styrofoam, Packing Peanuts and Bubble Wrap
Styrofoam is not a material that is recycled in Jefferson City. Here are a few options you can take advantage of:
Packing peanuts, made of expanded polystyrene, also known as EPS or plastic #6, keep shipped items from shifting and breaking, but send well-intentioned recyclers into a tizzy perhaps more than any other material. EPS is as recyclable as any other plastic, but due to the lightweight nature of the material and the expensive cost to transport and process for recycling, finding a local solution can prove to be difficult.
UPS and Fed EX will accept packing peanuts and Bubble wrap.
UPS Stores:
1709 Missouri Blvd #2
Jefferson City, MO 65109 (573) 635-4378
714 Heisinger Road
Jefferson City, MO 65109
(800) 742-5877
Fed Ex:
2525 Missouri Blvd
Jefferson City, MO 65109
(573) 635-2202
303 Norman Drive
Jefferson City, MO 65109
(800) 463-3339
Use a mail-back program such as the Alliance of Foam Packaging Recyclers. Remember to remove all debris from the EPS before breaking it into smaller pieces that fit into a box for shipping.
What about packing peanuts?
Their simplest reuse is in another package you need to ship. You can also donate them to UPS or other shipping stores, who will gladly reuse the material. Not sure where to go? Call the automated, 24-hour Peanut Hot line at 800-828-2214 to find a site near your residence that will reuse them.
Tires
Please take tires back to Automotive Stores that sell tires.
When purchasing new tires, have the business keep the old tires
