April is Fair Housing Month
The Jefferson City Area Board of Realtors joined Mayor Fitzwater at the City Council meeting on April 1 to receive the Fair Housing Month proclamation and recognize the winners of the Fair Housing Month poster contest.
April is Fair Housing Month to commemorate the Fair Housing Act, which was a landmark law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in April of 1968, that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status.
This year, the Jefferson City Area Board of Realtors hosted the 16th annual Fair Housing Month poster contest for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in the following counties: Cole, Callaway, Osage, and Moniteau.
4th Grade:
1st - Riley Brown, 2nd - Coraline Durham, 3rd, Josie Schmidt
1st - Lyza Lackman, 2nd - Raelynn Marlow, 3rd - Mason Kaiser
6th Grade:
1st - Joshua Simpson, 2nd - Evie Long, 3rd - Vera Boessen
The theme for 2024 is “The Key is not to Discriminate”.
