Citizen Boards, Commissions, and Committees

CITIZEN BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES

The city has more than 20 standing boards and commissions, providing hundreds of opportunities for citizens to get involved in the community. These positions are voluntary.  Service does require time and effort, so please closely review the board requirements to confirm that you are eligible and are able to serve.

If you would like to volunteer to serve on one of the Citizen Boards, Commissions, or Committees, simply download the volunteer profile application and return it either emailing CBitterman@jeffersoncitymo.gov, or by mail (City of Jefferson, Attn: Administration Department, 320 E McCarty St, Jefferson City, MO 65101) to get your name placed on the waiting list.

Openings may not be available at the time you apply. However, you will receive confirmation from the Mayor’s Office of receipt of your application.  

If you are appointed to a board/commission, you will receive a welcome letter stating which board you have been appointed to.

If you are not appointed to a board/commission within one year of your application, you will receive a letter letting you know your application is being removed.  At this point you are welcome to submit an updated volunteer profile.

Appointments to a Board/Committee are based on the Mayor’s recommendation.
Appointment Process:

  1. Vacancies are reviewed each month.
  2. For each vacancy the Mayor will review all volunteer profiles for that board.
  3. The Mayor’s recommendations are sent to the Administration Committee for review.
  4. The Administration Committee either approves or denies the recommendation.
  5. After approval, recommendations are sent to City Council for their review.
  6. City Council will vote on the Mayor’s recommended appointments at the next City Council meeting, usually the 3rd Monday of each month.
